One of our favorite holiday traditions is going to the zoo to look at all the lights. We love the lights and it is nice to go in the evening when we get to see some animals that are normally not active when we are there early in the day. We bring hot chocolate and check out the talking Christmas tree and visit the reindeer. I look forward to it every year. Unfortunately this year there was no snow, but when we went last year it was snowing big fluffy flakes and it was just like out of a movie.

One of our traditions is to have a big family gathering on Christmas Eve, filled with tons of Italian foods & desserts. Afterwords, we sit around the Christmas Tree and open the presents we are exchanging with each other, starting with the youngest person and leading up to the oldest person. For me, it would not be Christmas without this celebration, gifts or no gifts :)

Each year we make sure to buy an ornament of the year to fill our Christmas tree with memories. Now that we have baby Gavin and this is his first Christmas we will figure out what other traditions we would like to do as a family through the years.

My favorite tradition is going to my mom's on Christmas and opening presents around the tree. We play the Jimmy Buffet Christmas CD, drink coffee and open gifts. Then we eat a big breakfast afterwards! Love it!

My favorite holiday tradition is driving around to look at Christmas lights. There's one big display locally, and one neighborhood I can't miss. Spotting other displays is like a treasure hunt!

My favorite tradition is the Christmas cookies - yum. Unfortunately we'll have to cut back a little this year since a few family members are on diets.

My favorite holiday tradition is making and enjoying my mom's pound cake. My mom got the recipe from a friend that she met in Germany in the 1950's. She only made the poundcake once a year with homemade chocolate frosting and I got to decorate it. Since my mom passed away a couple of years ago, I have been making it and letting my son decorate it. My family and I put on our Christmas jammies, watch a movie and eat a piece of my mom's pound cake with hot chocolate until we need to go to bed for Santa to come.

One of our traditions is going to look at the local light display. It's in a retirement community & they (almost) all go all out, yards & houses covered. I've been going since I was a small child & now that I have two small children of my own, I love sharing this with them. They love it too!

My favorite holiday tradition is how everyone in the family writes letters to each other. After dinner we all go around the room and read our letters out loud. There are always many laughs and usually tears. I love how close my family is an how special it is to have these letters to keep from each sibling and parent.

We are starting a new Christmas tradition this year by having my wedding dress made into a Tree skirt that we will use every year and will pass on to my children!

Our favorite holiday tradition is baking cookies. Every year everyone gets together at my parents and we bake lots of cookies, fudge, and candy. I can not wait till my son is old enough to join in the fun. Oh and every year everyone has a cookie with our name on it and there are always the snowmen that the naughty dogs "pee" on.

My favorite is the day after Thanksgiving, getting our tree up and decorating the house, all while listening to Christmas In The Smokey Mountains. Fiddling Christmas music? Yes, please. :)

We all have stockings that first my grandmother made for my mother, and then all of us siblings, and now my mother makes for her grandchildren. They are red felt, stitched with our names and a few felt cutouts (Christmas tree, dove, deer, etc.)... yet unique to each of us. Our family is now so big, my parents have had to figure out a way to make them all fit on the mantle by making a second row!

My favourite holiday tradition is my mom's extensive Christmas set-up. And how much my neat-freak dad hates the plastic snow! He's always sweeping up the little flakes that fall off the shelf and my mom's always telling him to relax! I love that quirky family dynamics are magnified during the stress of the holidays! It just makes me laugh and be thankful I have a family that can irritate each other ;)

My favourite tradition was walking along the train tracks with my family to choose the perfect tree... I haven't done it in years, and this being my daughter's first christmas (she is my first child), I am going to revive the tradition... It's amazing how a child can turn even the biggest scrooge into a christmas lover :)

One of my favorite traditions is "doing advent". The four Sundays before Christmas, we gather as a family (and often invite friends). We light the candle, talk about its symbolism, and then sing carols and read Christmas stories. Oh, and drink hot cocoa and eat cookies, of course!

My favorite holiday memories is going to my aunts chritmas eve party as a young child and having so much fun and staying until late to play with my cousins and seeing all my family members. Now that I have children the same applies except for a new generation of kids. The cousins have so much fun together and the family is all still there. It's great to see everyone growing and changing each and every year. Now that I have my kids though we leave a little earlier so that I can now play the part of Santa! It's such a special time of year to me and my family! We love spending time together.

We are very tight financially, so it is a huge big joy for us to be able to give him a Christmas period, and we hope to have many more sleepless Christmas Eve's to put one out for him:)

Hiding the pickle ornament on the Christmas tree and watching the kids as they hunt for it. Then watch as the one that finds it opens the "pickle present" from under the tree. The present is always something like a game that they will use together so nobody feels left out!

Advent calendars! I love them, a little excitement every night, except we only remember to do it every three or four days. I made my own this year out of a mini muffin pan, done magnets and card stock, I filled it with good chocolates but when my son is bigger we can fill it with little toys.

My favorite holiday tradition is to give my husband (and now our daughter, too) a special ornament to commemorate something from our year together - like from a special vacation or a little house the year we bought our first house. I try so hard to wait until Christmas Eve, but I usually end up begging him to open it early so it can spend more time on the tree. LOL.
